Susan D. Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, FRCSC, MBA, FACS

Dr. Susan D. Moffatt-Bruce became the new CEO of the Royal College on January 6, 2020. She joins the Royal College from the Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center University Hospital where she served as executive director for two years. Prior to that role, she was the OSU Wexner Medical Center’s inaugural chief quality and patient safety officer. She is a professor of surgery and biomedical informatics at OSU.

After completing her undergraduate degree at McGill University, she attended medical school at Dalhousie University. During her General Surgery residency at Dalhousie University, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce undertook a PhD in Transplant Immunology at the University of Cambridge, England. She went on to complete her fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University, California. She has also trained at Intermountain Healthcare, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and Harvard School of Public Health.

A thoracic surgeon and funded research scientist, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce holds leadership positions in the American Association of Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the National Quality Forum and America’s Essential Hospital.

In addition to medical expertise, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce earned her Masters of Business Operational Excellence and her Executive Masters of Business Administration at the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University. Dr. Moffatt-Bruce’s passion for quality and patient safety, strengthened by an extensive background in business administration, has culminated in more than a decade’s work in continuous improvement.

Frank Rudzicz, PhD

Frank Rudzicz is a scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St Michael’s Hospital, Director of AI at Surgical Safety Technologies Inc., an associate professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, co-founder of WinterLight Labs Inc., faculty member at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and CIFAR Chair in Artificial Intelligence. His work is in machine learning in healthcare, especially in natural language processing, speech recognition, and surgical safety. His research has appeared in popular media such as Scientific American, Wired, CBC, and the Globe and Mail, and in  scientific press such as Nature.

Justin B. Dimick, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Justin B. Dimick is the Frederick A. Coller Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dimick is a graduate of Cornell University and Johns Hopkins Medical School. He completed his surgical training at the University of Michigan and a health services research fellowship at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice. Dr. Dimick has served in several national leadership positions, including President of the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), Chair of the Health Services Organization and Delivery (HSOD) Study Section at the NIH, Associate Editor at Annals of Surgery, and the Surgical Innovation Editor at JAMA Surgery. He has served as an advisor on quality and health policy for several organizations, including the BlueCross BlueShield Association (BCBSA), the American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP), US News and World Reports "Best Hospital" Rankings, and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).

Susanna Talarico, BEd, MD, FRCPC, MScCH

Dr. Susanna Talarico is a Pediatrician at the Hospital for Sick Children, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty Lead, Faculty Development for the MD Program at the University of Toronto.  She is a passionate medical educator who started her career as a high school math teacher.  She continues to be involved in all levels of medical education and has been recognized for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and for excellence and achievement in faculty development.
