Theme: Promoting Excellence in Surgical Education / Promouvoir l'excellence en éducation chirurgicale

Abstracts accepted for the C-CASE 2023 Conference are to be presented in the form of an Oral Presentation. Submission of an abstract implies the submitter’s agreement to register for the conference, pay the appropriate conference registration fee, and make the presentation as scheduled.

Oral Presentation:  Each presentation will be 3 minutes, followed by a 3 minute discussion.

CUSEC encourages presentations that:

  • Address issues of relevance to undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education

  • Identify innovative programs, practices and policies supported by evidence that aims to improve or enhance undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education

  • Research done in the field of undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education

  • Virtual Learning

  • Medical Student Preparation for Residency 

  • Resident Selection for Surgical Programs

  • Surgery Clerkship Challenges Addressed with Solutions

  • Diversity in Medical Student and Residency Education

  • Competency-Based Medical Education: UME to PGME

  • Faculty and Resident Engagement in Assessment and Feedback

  • Simulation in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Surgical Education

  • Innovation or Research in Surgical Education

  • Learner and Surgeon Well-being / Coaching / Mentorship

  • Diversity or Humanism in Surgical Education

Abstract Guidelines:

  • Each individual may submit a maximum of two (2) abstracts as Presenting Author. 

  • All correspondence regarding abstracts will be undertaken via email to the named ‘corresponding’ author.

  • There must be affirmation on behalf of all authors that the material presented in the abstract is original and does not copy or otherwise infringe on the copyright or other proprietary rights of another party, and that the authors have been involved in developing the work presented in the abstract in order to take responsibility for the content.

  • The presenting and corresponding authors must submit the following details: name, title, organization, address, city, province/state, postal/zip code, country, email address, business telephone number, and short biography.

  • Conflicts or potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed.

  • The deadline for abstract submission is SEPTEMBER 11, 2023.

    When you access the Submission Form, you will be asked to sign in using a Google account. This is necessary because the abstract submissions involve the upload of the Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form.

Abstract Content:

  • Abstracts will be accepted in English or French

  • Abstract Headings:  Title, authors and affiliations, introduction/background/purpose, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion

  • 250 word limit

  • Only abstracts that are complete and in accordance with the instructions provided above will be considered for review

 Review Process:

  • All abstract submissions will be acknowledged.

  • Submissions will be peer reviewed.

  • The selection criteria will be based on relevance to the conference theme, originality, and innovation of the work (e.g. Does it advance surgical education?) and interest potential.

  • Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified in September.

  • If accepted, we will be asking that you send us your slides at least seven (7) days prior to the conference, which will be assembled into a master slide deck to streamline delivery.

  • The presentations and Q&A will be delivered live in either English or French or a combination of the two languages.
